A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays

The winter break provide a plethora of pastimes much better than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and employing patience techniques to not snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items came out over the break, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has yet to be revealed.
