News has broken that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their roles will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several accomplished actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
- The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 release.
