Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate suitable to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, worried it could intensify polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting conservative and liberal candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
In 2015, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “because I think she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was joined by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence celebrities have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said Lawrence regarding his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for his first term. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the movie in Venice, the star addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is no less than a atrocity and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by stating that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor sought to redirect anger about the issue to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in the new film. Even though the director has disputed the plot being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she identified with elements of her role’s experience after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she explained, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called the prescription and I took it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
The actor also discussed about the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
